KUSHAN INDIA. Anonymous. 4th century AD. Gold medallion displaying Constantinian-era portraits and legends (7.32 gms with bezel and suspension post). CONATAN (“N”s retrograde) —S MAX AVG, draped and diademed bust of Roman emperor, presumably Constantine I, facing right / CONATAN (“N”s retrograde) —S MAX AVG, draped and diademed bust of Roman emperor, probably Constantine I, facing right; all within herringbone and beaded mount; suspension post at 12:00. Unpublished, but c.f. Triton IX (2006), lot 1156 for another gold medallion imitating Constantinian types attributed to the Kushans. An interesting and important piece. Extremely fine
